Bonjour à tous!
I hope that you're all doing well!
So this week was, as my title points out, about my "going back to normal". It was actually pretty bizarre to come back from my vacation and to start back up at University. I think this was partly due to the crazy awesomeness of my vacation, and also partly due to the fact that my normal life here isn't exactly normal like my life at SU.
Anyhoo, I have gotten back into the swing of things here in Rennes, which is good seeing as I have a few tests next week....
While I didn't do a ton of new stuff this week, I did do a bit more wandering than I normally did before my week in Scotland. While I was in Edinburgh I walked and explored so much every day that it was weird to come back here and take the bus instead of walking everywhere. So, a few days this week I have set off walking instead of taking a bus.
Yesterday (Friday), I finished class by 2 and went for a nice walk/exploration with some other CIEE students. We went from the University to one of the big parks in Rennes, wandered a bit and found our way to another park that we hadn't previously visited. Then we slowly made our way back, ending in a crêperie that also has really good milkshakes. It was a great way to explore a new part of Rennes, because I also had the chance to catch up with the other CIEE folk (most of us don't have classes together and therefore don't see each other much, so it's always fun when we have chances to hang out).
Today I went on another explorative trip (there's gotta be a better way to say that, but my English is failing me) with a slightly different group of CIEE folk. We started off our day with a trip to Rennes' weekly market, where we all picked up snacks for the rest of the day. Then, after adding a few other students, we set off for le Parc des Gayeulles, which is the biggest park in Rennes (when I say park, think paths through the woods, which lead from here all the way to Mont St Michel). We all decided to do this hike when one of the other CIEE girls, Alexandria, proposed a hike to a nearby forest via a path from Parc des Gayeulles. So we set out on our walk/hike, all 13 of us. We walked for about 1.5-2 hours before someone used their phone to look up the distance left to get to the forest and saw that it was another 3 miles. Aka 6 miles, because we still had to turn around and walk back. We all quickly decided that we were okay with not making it all the way, and turned around to begin walking back.
While the walk was long and tiring (more so because I wore the wrong shoes), it was a wonderful chance to have long conversations with a lot of CIEE folk who I know, but didn't really know before today. It was also good because I don't want to spend the rest of my semester sitting in my room watching TV, so days like this help by forcing me to get out of bed and be active.
While my body is still achy after walking about 14 miles today (22.5km), I am happy, and I'm looking forward to the rest of my time here in Rennes.
A la prochaine fois!
Evelyn
