Bonjour à tous!
I hope you're all doing well!
To my friends who have just started up their semester abroad, welcome to the party! Isn't it fun?
To everyone else -- I hope the snow hasn't piled up too high, and that you're finding time to curl up with a mug of hot cocoa and a good book.
Now, once again I did not remember to take many pictures this week, so I'm gonna tweak things around a bit (I promise next week's will be full of pictures!)
So I've been in Rennes for a few weeks now, and I have started developing a routine. Now, those of you who know me, especially my friends at SU, know that during the semester I tend to get pretty homework-oriented, and I spend most of my time working on some project or other. One of my biggest goals for this semester has been to break out of this pattern, and try new things. After all, it's not often that you get to spend a semester in a beautiful city.
Those of you who know me also know that I don't drink. Well, except for the times that my family's tried to get me to like wine (which has yet to work). But, here in France, the legal drinking age is 18, so all of us CIEE students can drink legally. Now, don't misinterpret and think that I'm going to start going on crazy benders, because no thank you.
However, I did have a wonderful time going out to a bar for trivia night this past week with a bunch of CIEE folk. This week's theme was Tarantino and Burton, so we didn't do too well, but next week's theme is Lord of the Rings (Le Seigneur des Anneaux), so I know we're gonna rock it! It was fun to go hang out with friends and not stress about having to even attempt French (the trivia was in English).
The next day (Thursday) CIEE had arranged a wine tasting for us. As I previously mentioned, wine is not my favorite drink (I'd rather just drink OJ), but I still tried each wine. Here's two pictures from that: (second pic photo cred to Claire, the other girl in the image)

This week we also had a long weekend - we got Friday off because we finished our pre-program class, and our real semester doesn't start until Monday. While many CIEE students went away for the weekend - Paris, Bordeaux, Copenhagen, and beyond, I decided to stay here. On Friday I went to the Brittany Museum with two of my friends, and we discovered a bit more of Brittany's history. On Saturday I spent some time exploring by myself, then met up with a friend. We walked around, shopped a bit, and eventually went back to her house for dinner and half of the second Lord of the Rings movie (in French of course).
It's so cool that I already feel comfortable navigating through the city (or at least the center), and that I have friends here who will go exploring with me.
So, this week I chose the phrase "le quotidien", which means day-to-day life/routine, because I really feel like I've settled into a rhythm here, and that's just so cool.
Well, I hope you all have a great week!
À bientôt!
